Blue lakes trail colorado elevation. The blue lakes trail was one of the most beautiful and memorable hikes i have ever taken. Because of that, add a couple of miles in either direction to hike between the parking area & the starting point of this hike. Total elevation gain from that lower parking area to blue lake is about 3,000 feet— it’s a good workout & a fun hike.
It is never too steep for too long. There are a couple of streams that you have to cross but nothing technical. In a little under 3 miles, pass by a waterfall to your left.
The second and third lakes don’t gain much distance, but the hike up is quite steep, about 500ft in.5 miles and 300ft in a quarter mile to the second and third lakes respectively. From the trailhead, take a right at the fork and hike through the trees on moderate grades but excellent trail. Trailhead to lower blue lakes.
6.3 miles (round trip) to lower blue lakes 8.2 miles (round trip) to upper blue lakes 11.0 miles (round trip) to blue lakes pass; The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from june until november. When you’ve had your fill of this charming lake, head back down the trail on the same path you came in on.
A slow, steady climb through pine forests and meadows with the occasional distant mountain views. A trail you want to be prepared for with appropriate hiking gear. The first mile itself is steep, and covers 900 feet of that elevation gain.
There's a clearing with camping options and a parking area about 0.2 miles further. In elevation, a very high altitude. The distance from the trailhead to lower blue lake is roughly 3 miles, and 1500 feet of elevation gain.
The blue lake trail leads, as one might guess, to blue lake. 4.8 mi (rt) elevation gain: The blue lakes trail starts out like most great colorado hikes:
8.7 miles (roundtrip) elevation gain: The middle lake is the smallest. A short 2.4 mile climb to the north past blue lake and a descent to a junction with west branch trail (#960) allow easy access to island and carey lakes, the rawah.
We opted for the 6.3 mile (round trip) trip to lower blue lake which includes a climb of 1,590 feet from the trailhead starting elevation of 9,350 feet. One more uphill section with mild elevation gain brings you to a stunning view of blue lake with mt. The elevation gain from the blue lake trailhead is 1.600 feet = 488 meters.
The upper lake has elevation 11,720 feet =3572 meters, and the distance between the upper and lowest lake is about 0.9 miles. Here you'll have outstanding views of mt. About the blue lakes trail.
The trail continues beyond the lake, tying into the west branch trail on the north side of blue lake pass. 8 miles roundtrip for the hike to lower, middle, and upper blue lakes. Epic colorado national park road trip;

Mount sneffels via blue lakes trail is a 13 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near ridgway, colorado that features a lake and is rated as difficult. • trailhead to lower blue lake colorado (part 1 of 4) distance: Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Trails nearby not to miss! Hat and gloves with shorts in the summer is not uncommon in colorado! The blue lakes trail, starting at the north end of the trailhead parking lot (see driving directions below), passes through a gate and soon reaches a signed “y” intersection.
After that the trail gets a lot easier to manage. The trail quickly ascends and weaves near the river, then up on the hillsides through tall forests and sweeping. Sneffels wilderness uncompahgre national forest.
